The National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia held a one-day training course on "Bank Guarantees as Instrument for Financing International Trade" for the ministries of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia and other government authorities. On 3 December 2015, а one-day training course on "Bank Guarantees as Instrument for Financing International Trade" was held at the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia. The training course was attended by representatives of the ministries of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, the local government of the City of Skopje and other government authorities who have communicated in the recent period with the National Bank when using bank guarantees as security instrument. The training course was opened by Maja Kadievska-Vojnovic MSc, Vice Governor, who explained the need for training of government authorities in relation to the proper use of the guarantees as an instrument of protection against risks arising from the contractual relations with their foreign partners.
The first part of the training started with the introduction to the concept, the significance and the essential elements of bank guarantees, and the second part addressed the practical aspects of operating with bank guarantees using case studies of risky guarantees, where interactive discussion was opened with participants who shared their former experiences, current challenges and dilemmas in everyday operations with bank guarantees.
Expected benefits from the training for the government authorities as beneficiaries of guarantees include development of analytical knowledge about key elements which are important in operating with bank guarantees and hence proper definition of the conditions of the guarantee that serves as an instrument for maximum protection against risks arising from contractual relationship with foreign partner.
