Direct investments are cross-border investments made to obtain a lasting interest in an enterprise resident in an economy other than of the investor, and to gain influence on the business strategy of that enterprise. The statistics of the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia cover data on both direct investment stocks and transactions. "Stocks" represent the direct investment position at year-end. Direct investment stocks data include equity (including reinvestment of earnings) and debt instruments. Changes in stocks between two reporting periods arise from: transactions, price changes and/or exchange rate changes and other changes in volume. "Transactions" consist of flows between affiliated entities based on equity capital, reinvestment of earnings and debt instruments.
Outward direct investment refers to Macedonian direct investment abroad and inward direct investment implies foreign direct investment in the Republic of Macedonia.
