Press release of the NBRM for the 23rd Annual conference of BSCEE
In the period from 15 to 17 June, 2010, the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia hosted the 23rd Conference of the Group of Banking Supervisors from Central and Eastern Europe (BSCEE), held in Ohrid. Participants in the Conference were the heads of the banking supervisory bodies from 18 countries from Central and Eastern Europe.
In the working part of the Conference the participants exchanged their experiences regarding two contemporary issues: (1) The lessons learned from the global economic crisis and the measures undertaken for strengthening the banking system resilience and (2) Liquidity risk standards, with a view to the national measures undertaken during and after the crisis. Regarding these two issues, the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in Basel issued consultative documents in November 2009, which were open for comments until April 16, 2010. At the moment, BIS analyzes the comments on the documents obtained from the banks and the regulators worldwide. Also, subject to consideration are the results of the quantitative studies which were carried out upon BIS' request, related to the effects of the new solvency and liquidity measures and standards, proposed by these documents. On the basis of these data, the final version of the two documents will be proposed for adoption by the Basel Committee in July 2010.
The participants at the Conference also discussed the activities that are undertaken in order to overcome the identified weaknesses in the national regulations of the participants, as well as the measures undertaken during and after the financial crisis for stabilizing the financial markets.
Guests and presenters at the Conference were also representatives from the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) from Basel, Switzerland, from the European Central Bank and from one international banking group.
