The 22th annual conference of the Group of Banking Supervisors from Central and Eastern Europe - BSCEE Group - BSCEE) was held in Minsk, Belarus within May 26 - 28, 2009 period. In the selection for a host of the next year conference between the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia and the Austrian Financial Market Authority, the vast majority of the member states of this group decided that the conference in 2010 should be organized by the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia. It means that in the following year, the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia, as a chair institution, will represent this group to the Basel Committee and it will coordinate all activities that are within the domain of this group.
The Group of the Banking Supervisors from Central and Eastern Europe is a regional association operating within the Basel Committee for Banking Supervision. The main objectives of the Group are the following:
- Establishing and maintenance of close cooperation and communication relations between the banking supervisors from the regional countries;
- Strengthening of the supervisory practice in the member states;
- Stimulating and organizing trainings and research activities with the banking supervision domain;
- Exchange of experience and knowledge within the domain of supervisory policies, procedures and techniques;
- Providing assistance during the integration into the European banking supervisory systems etc.
The Group of Banking Supervisors from Central and Eastern Europe has been established in Budapest in 1991 by the banking supervisory bodies from six countries: Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Russia. Today, the group is consisted of the supervisory bodies of 21 countries, such as: Albania, Austria, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldavia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine.
The National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia joined this group in 1996. Within this membership, the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia takes active participation within the domain of strengthening of the regional cooperation in the area of banking supervision and regulations.
