Press release of the NBRM
Today, September 27, 2002 the Macedonian delegation headed by the Governor of the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Ljube Trpeski, met the Executive Directors of the World Bank to the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Christian Portman, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) European Department, Mr. Deppler, as well as the head of the IMF Mission to the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Rozwadowski.
At the meetings, Governor Trpeski informed the IMF and the World Bank leadership on the current macroeconomic situation and the reforms made in the Republic of Macedonia. The directors of the IMF and the World Bank highly assessed the Central Bank’s ability to maintain the price stability and the Denar exchange rate in conditions of increased expenditures. Simultaneously, Governor Trpeski emphasized the necessity of urgent conclusion of an agreement with the IMF, which will enable withdrawal of funds from the credit arrangements concluded with the World Bank, and access to the financial support from other donors promised at the Donor Conference held in Brussels earlier this year. Governor Trpeski stressed that these funds are necessary for fostering the economic growth and for preserving the macroeconomic stability in the Republic of Macedonia.
Mr. Deppler and Mr. Rozwadowski showed their willingness to continue the talks on concluding a new arrangement right after the constitution of the new Government. In addition, Mr. Portman, announced his next visit to the Republic of Macedonia for the end of the year, when the discussions will be focused on the possibility for withdrawing funds from the FESAL arrangement for reform in the enterprises sector and the credit for the reforms in the public administration sector.
Governor Trpeski and Mr. Portman also discussed the new reform projects planned for the following year. It was agreed these projects, as well as the next three-year strategy of the World Bank for the Republic of Macedonia, to be the key issues in their discussions during the forthcoming visit of Mr. Portman to the Republic of Macedonia.
