Skopje, 27 August 2012
Press release of the NBRM
In connection with the information which has appeared today on some domestic Internet portals and concerning the devaluation of the Denar exchange rate, the Governor of the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia, Dimitar Bogov gave the following statement to the media:
"I declare that it is frivolous speculation placed by individuals who do not think well neither to the citizens of the Republic of Macedonia nor to the country itself. Apparently, someone wants to hit where we are strongest, in the macroeconomic stability and the stability of the banking system. NBRM remains consistent to the policy of stable exchange rate of the Denar against the Euro and keeping low inflation, at the level of the inflation in the Euro area. Foreign reserves are on the historically highest level of EUR 2.1 billion; in the last two months the NBRM exclusively purchased excess foreign exchange on the foreign exchange market, and Denar saving of citizens continues to grow, so that at the end of July it reached 48 percent of total savings. I believe that citizens will again demonstrate calmness and rationality as they did many times before and will ignore the speculation placed by those who are on the make."
