Press release of the NBRM for the 23rd Annual conference of BSCEE
Within the 15-17 June, 2010 period, the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia will host the 23rd Annual Conference of the Group of Banking Supervisors from Central and Eastern Europe (BSCEE). The National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia was chosen to chair the Group in 2010 at the conference held last year in Minsk, Belarus. The presidency is one year.
This group has been established in Budapest in 1991 by the supervisory bodies of six countries: Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Russia. In 1996, upon recommendation of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS), on the international conference of banking supervisors (ICBS) held in Stockholm, 16 countries, which were then members of this group, concluded an agreement for international cooperation within the banking supervision domain.
The main objective of this group is cooperation support between its members, as well as their training and improvement, representing also a forum for exchange of knowledge and experience among the members. One of the objectives of this group is to facilitate the process of integration of the supervisory bodies to its members in the European system of banking supervision.
Republic of Macedonia became a member of the group in 1996, with this group currently consisting of supervisory bodies from 21 countries.
The Conference, hosted by the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia, will be held in "Gorica Hotel" Ohrid and it will be opened by the Governor of the National Bank, Mr. Petar Goshev. The Conference will be attended by the leading persons of the supervisory bodies from (in alphabetical order): Austria, Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Serbia, Ukraine, Hungary, Croatia, Montenegro, Czech Republic.
During the working part of the Conference the participants will exchange their experiences for two currently extremely relevant issues: Lessens learnt from the global economic crisis and undertaken measures for strengthening of the resistance of the banking system and (2) Standards and liquidity risk measurement, with a review of the national measures undertaken during and after the crisis. For both of these topics, international discussions in the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in Basel are underway, the aim of which is finding adequate manners to improve the banking regulations and strengthen the resistance of the banking systems.
In the role of guests and speakers, the Conference will also be attended by representatives of the Bank for International Settlement (BIS) from Basel, Switzerland, the European Central Bank and from one international banking group.
During the free time, the international guests will have possibility to get acquainted and to enjoy in the attractiveness of Ohrid and Ohrid Lake.
