The Bank for International Settlement (BIS) held its Annual and Extraordinary General Meeting today in Basle, Switzerland, which was attended also by the Governor of the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Ljube Trpeski. During the Extraordinary General Meeting, a Resolution for cancellation of the 8000 shares, which the National Bank of the former SFRY previously held in the BIS was adopted, and simultaneously a new package of shares was issued, on the same amount, allocated to the Central Banks of the successor-states of the former SFRY. The National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia received 430 shares, which represent 5.4% of total shares. Gold and foreign exchange reserves of the National Bank of the former SFRY held in BIS were allocated according to the same distribution key pattern.
The Bank for International Settlement shall transfer the assets on the accounts of the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia as of 13.06.2001 (Wednesday) at latest.
Simultaneously, the National Bank of Yugoslavia was accepted as a new member state in the Bank for International Settlement. As it is already known, the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia was accepted as a member of BIS on its General Assembly held in May 1997, as one of the successors of the National Bank of the former SFRY.
