Press release of the NBRM
Today, the Governor of the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Ljube Trpeski received the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of France in the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Jean Francois Terral, upon his request. At the meeting, Governor Trpeski informed the Ambassador Terral about the macroeconomic situation in the Republic of Macedonia and the dynamics for implementation of the structural reforms in the country, especially in the banking sphere. Ambassador Terral emphasized that the realization of the structural reforms in the Republic of Macedonia is of a double significance for the country. Thus, reforms are not important only from the aspect of concluding the arrangements with the international financial institutions, IMF and the World Bank, but also from the aspect of admitting foreign investors in the Republic of Macedonia. In that sense, Ambassador Terral expressed his interest in the conditions and strategy of the Republic of Macedonia for admission of foreign investors, especially with respect to the terms for entrance of commercial banks from the Republic of France in the banking system of the Republic of Macedonia.
During the meeting, Governor Trpeski and the Ambassador Terral agreed that the numerous changes in the banking sphere incorporated in the new banking law will contribute to the increased interest of the western commercial banks to invest in the Republic of Macedonia.
