Payment Statistics

Purpose:

Statistical reports on submitting payment operations data

Reporting units (reporting agents)

Banks, issuers of electronic money, legal entities involved in payment system or perform other services related to payments, micropayment intermediaries and other payment service providers, and payment system operators. The data shall be reported on a monthly basis through the electronic application to the Payment Systems Department in the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia, within predetermined deadlines.

2. Terms, definitions and types of data

Тhe terms and the definitions are significantly adjusted to the requirements of the Regulation on the payment statistics No. 1409/2013 of the European Central Bank. The reporting agents shall submit data on: payment accounts, payment cards, payment card accepting devices, payment transaction by type of payment instrument, payment transactions, by the type of terminal, types of participants in the payment systems and payments processed through payment system, as well as the total number of merchants and total number of stores of merchants in the country who are clients of the payment service provider and accept their cards.

3. Data processing

The data shall be processed by the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia. The data submitted by the reporting agents shall be published in aggregate form, by observing the principle of confidentiality of individual data that are submitted by individual reporting agent.

4. Integrity

Reporting agents shall submit monthly data to the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia. The data shall be controlled by the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia and in case of unusual variation and illogicality regarding the preceding month, the reporting agents shall be required to submit additional information and explanations for the reasons of such variations.

5. Revision

The data revision shall be performed in case new, corrected information and data are received from the reporting agents, as well as in case of methodological changes in terms and definitions.

6. Time series and data frequency:

The data from January 2005, published according to the old methodology, shall be available monthly on the web site of the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia, in the part referring to the payment statistics.

The reporting agents, according to the new Methodology of the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia, shall submit monthly data on the reporting period that begins in January 2016 and annual data on the reporting period that begins in 2015.

7. Publication

The National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia shall publish the data monthly, i.e. annually in aggregate form, on its web site, except certain defined data that are used only for analytical purposes of the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia and are not subject of publication.
