On 15 January, the National Bank Governor, Anita Angelovska Bezhoska, met with the Italian Ambassador, Andrea Silvestri, who took office in our country last November.
His Excellency Silvestri emphasized that the central bank role and independence is very important, especially in times of crisis. The Ambassador expressed satisfaction with the activities and measures taken by the National Bank in dealing with the economic consequences of the crisis and maintaining macroeconomic stability. Ambassador Silvestri also appreciated efforts paid to maintaining a prudent monetary and fiscal policy during the pandemic, aimed at economic revitalization of the country in 2021.
In the meeting, Governor Angelovska Bezhoska referred to the measures taken to address challenges posed by the corona crisis, as well as the National Bank macroeconomic forecasts of economic growth of 3.9% and inflation of about 1.5% for 2021. She underlined the importance of the cooperation with the international financial institutions and the European institutions for providing sources of funding for structural reforms aimed to increase economic potential in the medium term and for further institutional capacity building.
Governor Angelovska Bezhoska and the Italian Ambassador Silvestri expressed strong commitments to continue and deepen cooperation in the future. The meeting was an opportunity to reaffirm the Italian support for the country's European perspective, which should be encouraged through cooperation in all fields.
